Licensing

The terms of our license are fully outlined and explained in the XLL Plus End User License Agreement (EULA) included with our product installation. Before you can install and use the XLL Plus software, you must read, understand and accept the terms and conditions of the EULA. We have listed a number of Questions and Answers below, which in no way supplant the terms and conditions of the XLL Plus End User License Agreement, but which we hope may help to address some frequently asked questions regarding our license terms.

No. Planatech Solutions does not charge any royalties for the distribution of XLLs developed using our XLL Plus product range. However, we do require that you have at least one valid XLL Plus development license. For full details, please see our End user License Agreement (EULA). You can find a copy here.
When you purchase a license to XLL+, you purchase the right to use that license in perpetuity. XLL+ is not sold as a subscription. As part of the XLL+ package, you will also receive one year of free support on the version of XLL+ you have purchased and the previous sequential release.
A standard fixed license is a license that is tied to a single CPU, and allows the software to be used by one user at a time on that machine only.

For a floating license installation, we need to ask some questions of your Systems Administrator or your file server manager. We also address any issues your System Administrator may have, and provide detailed installation instructions prior to delivery, so when the software is delivered, it can be installed seamlessly on the correct file server.
No licenses are required to run the binaries (XLLs) that are built using the tool-kit.
On a developer's machine, a trial run-time license is installed when the trial version of the XLL+ toolkit is installed. On a user's machine, a 30-day run-time license is automatically generated the first time an XLL (built using the trial version of XLL+) is run on the machine. All trial licenses expire after 30 days. On a developer's machine, this means that the XLL+ development tools stop working, and XLLs built using XLL+ will not load. Similarly, on a user's machine, all XLLs built using the trial version of XLL+ will not load. Trial licenses on a user's machine will stop working 30 days after the first time any XLL built using the trial version of XLL+ is run on that machine.

We can supply extensions for trial licenses for further 30-day periods. If your trial license has expired, send an email to sales@planatechsolutions.com. Include the machine name or names for which you need extensions, and we can email you machine-specific licenses for a further 30 days.

If you are developing on one machine, and testing on another, remember to include both machine names.

The machine name can be found if you start a Command Prompt and type: set. The machine name will be listed as COMPUTERNAME=[your computer name].

When you install the retail version of the XLL+ toolkit, you should completely rebuild any XLLs you have created using the trial version. These new versions will not have any run-time license requirement.

If you have already supplied users with XLLs built using the trial version, then you should deliver the new build to your users, so that they do not require licenses, and so that their copies do not stop working after 30 days.

The only difference between the trial version and the retail version is in the XLL+ run-time libraries - the common code that is built into all XLLs produced using XLL+.

The trial version libraries include code that checks for a valid XLL+ license on the current machine, and will not allow an XLL to be loaded if the license has expired or is otherwise invalid.

The retail version libraries do not include this code: an XLL built with the retail version of XLL+ will run on any machine without restriction, and users of these XLLs do not require any form of XLL+ license.

Yes. We do ask that you make us aware of the transfer of license by writing to us and formally assuming the obligations under the terms of the End User License Agreement (EULA). Please refer to section 2e of the EULA for further details.

Our licenses are CPU-based, which means they are tied to a particular computer, not a particular developer. It would be up to you to decide how many developer licenses are sufficient to your needs, or you could consider a floating license. Yes. If you have registered your license with us, then you can log in to your account at https://www.planatechsolutions.com/support/ and make the change yourself.
So long as both computers are not used at the same time, this is fine.
Yes. You can transfer your license to a new PC. Please refer to the terms and conditions in our End User License Agreement (EULA), Section 2d. We will be happy to take you through the reinstallation process, if you need some assistance.

Installation

No personal information is gathered during the installation of XLL+. Please refer to our Privacy Statement https://www.planatechsolutions.com/privacy/ for further details.
You do not need an internet connection to install and start using XLL+.

Support

All XLL Plus licenses include support for the first twelve (12) months after the purchase date, as per the terms of our End User License Agreement (EULA). If you wish to renew this support after the expiration of the initial twelve-month period, please contact us at support@planatechsolutions.com.

Our support includes code corrections to our software, improvements and updates, fixes and patches, and email support to provide assistance in the use of the software. Support does not include upgrades to newer versions of the software.

Our standard XLL+ support plan covers the following support of the current version of the software and the previous sequential release of the software for a period of twelve (12) months):

  • Code Corrections: if the software deviates from the documentation supplied;
  • Software Products Updates: improvements, extensions and other changes to the software;
  • Email Support: for the software during our business hours;
  • Fixes: supply workarounds for problems where known, answer questions and provide patches where they exist;
  • Assistance: to supply a reasonable amount of assistance in the event of difficulties in the use of the software.
Our standard support package provides version support for a period of twelve (12) months. The first twelve months of support for any license purchased are included in the purchase price. After the twelve-month period expires it is entirely optional to renew support: it is not an annual subscription and therefore does not include automatic upgrades. Upgrades can be purchased for a discounted price, if and when they are required.

Ordering and Upgrades

The easiest way to purchase a copy of XLL Plus is to do so via our Online Store which is serviced by FastSpring, our authorised reseller.

You can upgrade to a newer version of XLL Plus at our Store by following the steps outlined below. If you need to upgrade more than one license, you may wish to contact us at support@planatechsolutions.com and we will send you a multi-license upgrade code.

For dual versions of XLL Plus, please use the license key attached to the more recent version eg for XLL Plus for Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008, please use the license key for the 2008 version.

  1. Locate license key

    First you will need to locate your current license key. It will have been sent to you in the delivery email when you purchased your XLL Plus developer license. Your license key will be in this format, but will contain different numbers and letters:

    AAAA71A:X1:BBB123456

    Once you have located the license key, copy and paste it into a Notepad so it is easy for you to reference. Once you have done this, please remove the separators from the license key, so it will now look like this:

    AAAA71AX1BBB123456

    If you cannot find these details and you purchased through us directly, please contact us at support@planatechsolutions.com and we will be able to resend you these details. If you purchased your license through a third-party reseller, you will need to contact them for this information.

  2. Upgrade license

    Once you have your license key, please go to the Upgrades page on our store, then proceed as follows:

    1. Select the version of XLL Plus you wish to upgrade to by clicking on the “Add to Cart” button.
    2. A “Your Payment” bar will appear on the right hand side and will display your purchase details.
    3. Next click on the “Enter Promotional Code” link just below the product list. A “Coupon Code” field will be displayed. Enter your license key, in the format shown in the example above, without any separators or spaces.
    4. The page will be updated and the upgrade price will be displayed.
    5. To complete your purchase, select your payment option and complete payment details.
    6. Upon successful completion of payment, your new upgraded developer license will be displayed and a confirmation email will be sent out to you.

Please note that the upgrade code can only be used to purchase one upgrade. If you have more than one license to upgrade please contact us at support@planatechsolutions.com and we will send you a special upgrade code to cover the number of licenses you require.

Yes, you will need both versions of XLL Plus.

If you are already using a licensed version of XLL Plus for Visual Studio 2015, you can upgrade to XLL Plus for Visual Studio 2017. Your ownership of the license for XLL Plus for Visual Studio 2015 does not change: it is a perpetual license, so you will be able to use both versions after an upgrade.

If this is a first purchase, then we would recommend you purchase a dual version: XLL Plus for Visual Studio 2015 and 2017. This would be a better pricing option than two single versions.

  1. Uninstall any trial versions of XLL Plus that are currently on your machine, prior to installing the licensed version of the software.
  2. Install the licensed version of XLL Plus and any patches.
  3. Open the project using your version of Visual Studio e.g. Visual Studio 2017.
  4. Accept the 'One-way upgrade' that is offered by Visual Studio.
  5. Ensure that the XLL Add-Ins tool window is visible. If necessary, refer to the following on-line help link: http://www.planatechsolutions.com/xllplus7-online/?start_toolwindow2.htm.
  6. From the toolbar in the XLL Add-Ins tool window, use the command: 'Tools > Upgrade Project to XLL+ 7...'
  7. Use the Visual Studio command 'Build > Rebuild Solution' to completely rebuild the project.

Yes, you can upgrade to the latest version and pay the upgrade price. In order to obtain the upgrade price, you will need your current license details. Please refer to the Ordering and Upgrades FAQ for further details.

Unless we have a reseller agreement in place whereby the reseller actively markets our products, we do not offer reseller discounts. Discounts are offered directly to our customers.

Payment Types and Corporate Ordering

Depending on which country you are in, you will find that we support the following payment types: Credit / Debit Card, PayPal, Sofort, GiroPay, Wire Transfer, iDEAL and Amazon.

Yes, we can do this in the following stages:

  1. Formal Quotation

    If you would like to receive a formal quotation, please write to us at support@planatechsolutions.com. We will need the following details from you so we can send you a quotation in the form of a .pdf document:

    • Company representative's name;
    • Company address;
    • Version of XLL Plus required and the number of licenses required.
  2. Purchase Order

    Once you have received the formal quotation and your accounts department has raised the purchase order, either you or they, can make a purchase directly from our store.

    Select the software version and number of licenses required and “Add to Cart”.

    In the “Your Payment” section you will be offered several ways to pay. One of these will be “Purchase Order”. Select this option.

    You will be presented with a “Payment Information” popup. Please enter your name, email address, postal code and your PO number in the fields provided.

    Once you have clicked the “Pay” button a confirmation page will appear, and you will be given the option to pay now or print the invoice. Payment instructions will also be sent by email to the address entered in the “Payment Information” popup.

    You will have 14 days to complete the order by making payment.

    Once your payment has been received, your full license details and installation instructions will automatically be sent to the email address entered in the “Payment Information” popup.

Registration and Downloads

You can register your XLL Plus licenses with us at https://www.planatechsolutions.com/support/. Registration of the products you have purchased, either directly from Planatech Solutions or from one of our sales partners, will allow you the option to download any free product upgrades to which you are entitled under the terms of the software licence agreement, and any patches or downloads we may release.

Registering your email address will enable our systems to email you instantly with decryption passwords for any encrypted upgrades, patches or downloads, and evaluation downloads as they are downloaded; respond to you if you have completed a Contact form; and inform you of any upgrades, patches or downloads to which you are entitled and, where you have previously made a formal request for information, information on new Planatech products or version releases of software.

Once you have registered, you don't need to do it again. You just need to use your chosen logon whenever you enter the Download and Support section of the web site.
